Abstract

Violence against women is an endemic health problem that has mental health consequences. Women who experience violence often seek health services for mental health problems. Guidelines from national and international agencies recommend that these women receive evidence-based psychological treatments. To date, there is little consensus on which therapies are most effective for intervening in violence. This review aimed to analyze systematic reviews of psychological interventions in women victims of gender violence aged 18 to 60.  A literature search was conducted in the following electronic databases: PubMed, Medline, Embase, Ovid, Cochrane Central, Scopus, Web of Science, and Scholar Google. Seven articles were evaluated. The results suggest that the psychological interventions with the greatest efficacy were cognitive behavioral interventions that aimed to reduce the levels of different disorders such as PTSD or depression.  Furthermore, these tended to be more effective when combined with medical, legal, and social support, which can be used in the intervention of women victims of gender violence. Future research could focus on testing efficacy per intervention independently with greater methodological rigor and examining the mechanisms of clinical change.
